Daniel Tu’utau – BA, MM, DMA

Daniel Tuutau is originally from Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Hollywood High School Performing Arts Academy and as a child performed and toured internationally with the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Masters in Music for Vocal Performance from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Utah in Vocal Performance. He has previously worked as an adjunct professor in voice at the University of Utah in the Theater Department and is currently an assistant professor of music in voice at Brigham Young University–Hawaii on the island of Oahu. 

He spent over a decade involved in productions with Utah Opera. He filled comprimario roles such as Count Ceprano in Utah Opera’s production of Verdi’s Rigoletto, and was active with Utah Opera Chorus participating in over 20 productions including Thaïs, La Boheme, Pirates of Penzance, and Barber of Seville. He frequently performed with Lyrical Opera Theater in Salt Lake including roles as Doctor Bartolo in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Simone in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca, Raimondo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Rigoletto in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata, and Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen.

Dr. Tuutau has previously performed with Ogden’s NEXT Ensemble (Balthazar in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors) and performed for many years with the University of Utah’s Lyric Opera Ensemble. His principal roles there included Pandolphe in Massanet’s Cendrillon, the Count in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Mr. Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff,  Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Reverend Olin Blitch in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah and as the title character in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. His other opera roles include Guglielmo (Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte), Stefano (Donizetti’s Viva La Mamma), and The Duke of Plazza-toro (Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers).

In addition to working in music, Dr. Tuutau runs a pair of small business, DB Productions Utah and DB Productions Oahu, which provide photography, videography, and digital design services to businesses, non-profits, and individuals throughout the Wasatch Front and the Island of Oahu. He lives in La’ie, Hawaii, with his wife, Brandy, and their four children.

Other Interests

Beyond his musical pursuits, Daniel is deeply committed to his community and faith. As an active member of his church, he finds joy in service and leadership, using his talents to uplift others. His dedication to civic engagement also reflects his passion for making a positive impact, whether through volunteering or supporting local initiatives.

In addition to his performance and community work, Daniel is a co-founder of DB Productions, a creative company specializing in photo, video, and design. His work with DB Productions allows him to merge his artistic vision with entrepreneurial drive, delivering exceptional services that capture and create lasting memories for clients.
